because knitters love to do it in public

We had such a fab time on World Wide Knit in Public Day, we want more knitting and meeting and chatting and eating. So we’re having a picnic yay.

S’on Saturday 5 July at 2pm in Platt Fields park. We’ve got a poster, we’ve got a facebook event, we’ve got a fall back plan in the event of wet weather. We’re all good to go.

Manchester Knitters' Picnic

et tu, Gruaniad?

So I went along to our local cafe for knitting group tonight. I was the first there so I was sitting there have a drink and finishing my socks and reading the paper. I opened the Guardian’s G2 section and WTF? There’s my adipose photo.  Again used for commercial purposes without my permission and without acknowledgement.  You’d think picture eds and subs on national newspapers would know better than to use random pictures they find on t’interweb without contacting the photographer first.  Bah bah bah.  I’ve emailed but I’m not expecting a reply, I think this might be a snail mail job.

Anyways knitting group was good, three new people came along, with varying levels of experience.  And between showing people how to do things, I managed to finish the surprise stripes socks yay.  Did the grafting when I got home, they’re in the sink now.

Jeanie

jeanie, for mum
I did enjoy knitting this and am very pleased with the result, and Mum says she loves it. But it did give me some grief, particualrly the finishing. I’ve never managed to graft anything before so grafting k1p1 rib was a ‘challenge’ ahem which may have involved the odd bit of weeping, some throwing things, and occasional shouting at the family to shut up and leave me alone. Only 2 lots of 16 stitches to graft but it was way painful. The finished result wasn’t perfect but was better that I’d expected (and on the upside, at least I feel able to tackle stocking stitch grafting now; in fact I want to make the North Sea Shawl from Folk Shawls that has a big load of grafting in it). And one of the knitted-on bands went a bit weird and I couldn’t work out why.

But on the whole, once blocked and dried, it is beautiful if I say so myself. Enjoy your cruise, mum.

And in other news, we had our first knitting meet in our local cafe on Thursday. Only, some people thought it was going to be a knitting class and came along hoping to learn. I brought spare needles and oddments of yarn and assorted books and ended up trying to show 5 people how to knit. And we’re doing it all again next week.
